
Accounting Specialist

Key Responsibilities
- Manage accounts payable, cash disbursements, deposits, invoicing, vendor records, and credit cards
- Process bi-weekly payroll; serve as liaison with HR/payroll provider
- Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual tax and compliance reports, including 1099s
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management and the Board and assist with analyzation of key data
- Maintain general ledger, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and bank reconciliations
- Support budget tracking, management reports, audits, and account analysis
- Maintain accounting systems, financial records, and purchase requisitions, including vendor management
- Support HR functions including job postings and applicant tracking
- Manage assigned insurance and receivable-related activities
- Recommend and support accounting policies and internal controls, including identifying inefficiencies and recommending process improvements or systems.
- Provide clear, timely financial information to non‑finance staff
- Act as secondary finance contact in the absence of the VP of Finance
- Adheres to Council and GSUSA policies, standards, procedures and Girl Scout Promise and Law
- Supports and promotes the Council’s and GSUSA’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and pluralism
- Other duties as assigned to reach the goals of the Council
Required Skills
- Strong attention to detail, able to organize and prioritize working independently
- Ability to organize work and implement procedures
- Experience in accounting platforms (Abila MIP preferred)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Power Point, Word, and Excel
- Exercise sound judgment in resolving discrepancies and escalating issues appropriately
- Ability to apply finance best practices in a nonprofit environment
- Team player who focuses on building relationships both internal and external to the organization
- Flexible, highly focused, and disciplined, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage fluctuating workloads
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or a closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Relevant experience may have been gained through nonprofit, governmental, education, or mission‑driven organizations
