Why Wyakin Foundation:

This is an opportunity for the right person to make a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans, their families, and their futures.  You will join a dedicated team, an engaged board of directors, a community of volunteers, donors and partners who believe deeply in Wyakin’s mission to support veterans as they transition from military service into sustainable, long-term civilian careers.

The Ideal Director will Possess:

  • First-hand experience working with veterans or the military community; preferably a veteran themself.
  • Extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, financial management, and fundraising, complemented by a demonstrated ability to mentor and develop team members, drive strategic initiatives, and balance budgets to ensure successful program outcomes.
  • Demonstrated excellence in internal and external communications, fostering strong relationships with staff and board members while effectively representing the organization through grant proposals, public presentations, written communications, and one-on-one engagement with donors, veterans, and volunteers.
  • A true collaborative spirit, working in tandem with team members, bringing passion, integrity, and a positive attitude while authentically supporting veterans in our programs.

The Director’s Core Focus is to:

  • Work collaboratively with the Wyakin team and programs to achieve greatness, using thoughtful evaluation and nonprofit management best practices to consistently reach and exceed our goals.
  • Actively engage, motivate, and build meaningful relationships with our staff, volunteers, board members, committees, alumni, donors, sponsors, and community partners.
  • Work together with our board to build on our strategic direction, developing the growth of the Wyakin Idaho office as well as our Midwest Chapter initiatives.
  • Proudly represent Wyakin at public speaking engagements, media appearances, and fundraising and community events.
  • Cultivate partnerships in new markets and build genuine relationships with community leaders to help expand our fundraising reach.
  • Champion Wyakin nationally, serving as a passionate external voice, sharing program stories to inspire regional and national support.

Qualifications for this Position:

  • College degree and 5+ years senior leadership, nonprofit and financial management experience.
  • Preference for veterans and/or profound experience and genuine passion for serving the military and veteran community.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams to greatness and implement real strategies to achieve organizational goals.
  • Proven success in fundraising, donor cultivation, sponsorships, grant funding, and business development.
  • Experience partnering with boards and teams with a track record of success in building relationships and advancing public engagement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect authentically with individuals and groups across a variety of backgrounds and disciplines.

If you meet these qualifications and are a collaborative leader with a passion for serving the veteran community, we invite you to submit your application to: Boardchair@Wyakin.org.
